Plan of the House Description
.. The large Tuscan order atrium (A) (pictured below) has a patterned floor and a double impluvium beside which sits a marble table. At the rear of the atrium is the tablinum (B) which overlooks the peristyle and garden.
To the left of the tablinum is a large room (C), probably an oecus, richly decorated with frescoes in the third style. This room (pictured below right) also has views overlooking the newly added peristyle (E) and garden. ..

| This house, which overlooks Cardo IV was preserved to the level of the third floor. Its facade, which ends with a cornice decorated with ova, is one of the most sophisticated in the region. .. The simple opus signinum floor of the hall indicates that the house was built sometime during the late republican period (first century BC). It was subsequently remodelled early in the first century AD with the construction of the peristyle to the rear of the tablinum (pictured below) and redecorated with frescoes in the third style. During this renovation the tablinum appears to have been shortened, enabling the erection of a truncated porticus on the east side of the peristyle. ,,
 ..
.. On the left of the atrium are cubicula and an ala while to the left of the entrance (looking towards the street) is a further cubiculum (D) (pictured below). ..
.. An elegant wooden partition, in which two of the three panels were hinged and had bronze handles, can be seen in the foreground of the photograph above. .. The broad opening off the tablinum onto the peristyle may have instigated the installation of the partition. Probably such room dividers were common in Roman houses, although there are no other existing examples of such wooden structures. ,, The workshops and stores (F) on the north side and west end of the house were also added during the period of remodelling. | |
